Log 43, Eucalypt burl and half log. A very large burl and short half+ log recovered from a harvesting operation south of Bronte Park. The burl appears to be solid despite some surface gum and most of the log section is solid. The burl could be cut into blocks with a chainsaw for many large turning blanks or blocks could be milled into thick or thin slabs for a variety of high value products. The log section could also be milled into high quality wide slabs or boards. This burl appears to be very high quality and is one of the largest burls salvaged for sale by tender. Log length 2.1 metres, butt diameter 100 cm, head diameter 100 cm, volume of this half log is about 0.80 cubic metres, weight about 900 kg. Burl length 1.8 metres, x 2.8 metres circumference x 70 cm thick. Burl volume is about 3.5 cubic metres. Weight of the log and burl is 5.5 tonnes. IST Geeveston could mill this log to order, after some chainsaw preparation at $120 per hour, on their Woodmizer bandsaw mill at $220 per hour; the timber and offcuts can be collected or strapped onto a pallet base for delivery to an Australian address.
